We are so sad to hear of Gene's passing. He was a wonderful checker player and we enjoyed seeing him and Betty at many tournaments. We will surely miss him and our prayers are with you, Betty and the family. God's grace is sufficient. We love you. Bill & Frances McClintock

Tennessee tournaments are always a long drive for me but the people there have always been so nice and Gene was one of them... my prayers to his family

Very sad news. To Gene's loved ones I extend my condolences and prayers. I first met Gene in 2004 when he traveled all the way from Tennessee to Indiana to play in the 2004 District 6-Indiana State Checker Tournament, he finished in second place that year and then returned in 2005 to win the tournament. We missed having Gene here the past two tournaments, understandably so and largely due to his involvement in organizing the Tennessee State GAYP Tournament which is played in Morristown the weekend preceding to our tournament. Gene was an outstanding player and shared his love of the game by advancing it in many ways. Checkers and we who play the game have suffered a great loss and Gene will certainly be missed.

Gene always participated in our NC State Open, District 4, as well as VA State Open. Betty usually attended with him and all the wives entertained each other and enjoyed her company. He supported checkers and gave generously. He was loved by all of us and we will dearly miss this Master Player. We share our deepest sympathy to all his friends and family. I have known about Gene for several years. He was a fine checker player, and getting much better each year. He was a top master, and loved the game very much. I talked to him on the phone about 2 months ago. Life is very uncertain each day. It sure does make me think about life. It was a pleasure to have known him. God bless his family, and friends. I knew Gene for more than 10 years. He was a real gentleman, lover and patriot of Checkers and American Checkers federation. He used to be a strong player and I learned from him alot. He was also a great enthusiast and promoter the game. This is certainly a great and unexpected lost for checkers and for me. I am dummy, nothing to say. My deep sympathy to all his friends and family members. Alex Moiseyev, 3-move Checkers World Champion

It was always my pleasure to see Gene at various Checker Tournaments and most recently at the American Checker Federation National Tournament in Las Vegas. Gene was a top International Player and loved the game and the ACF of which he served as elected Treasurer some years ago. Gene was always a tough opponent and will be missed by many who knew him. Today was a very sad day for me to learn of Gene's passing. Gene was a long time ACF Life Member and always supported the ACF and the game of Checkers. Gene and I had several discussions on him establishing an International Match Trust Fund as seeing this important event preserved was most important to him. Dear Gene: I will miss you.
